Cheap Sofa Care
Caring for your sofa is very important if you want it to have the longest lifespan possible. There are many ways to look after your sofa but there are also many ways to tarnish your sofa even with the best intentions. Here we have provided some good guidelines for looking after your cheap sofa.
Removing dust and dirt.
For a fabric sofa removing dust and dirt is best done using a vacuum cleaner. It is best if you can use a vacuum cleaner with a low suction setting or even better use a handheld vacuum device. Wiping dust and dirt off a fabric sofa will result in the dirt and dust actually being ground into the fabric and is a quick way to make you sofa look mucky and worn before it needs to be.
For leather sofas dust and dirt should alway be removed using an alcohol free wipe or a lint free cloth. Never use cloth that have colour or dirt in them such as a dishcloth as this may leave oil and grease on your leather. Using a vacuum cleaner on leather is not advised.
Sunlight and heat.
Both leather and fabric sofas should be kept away from sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause colours to fade and the natural oils found in leather can quickly dry up. This will result in cracked leather that is not too great to look at.
Heat can ruin the frame in both leather and fabric sofas as both tend to be made from wood. A warped frame from too much heat is the last thig you want and is for the most part unrepairable.
Spills and stains.
When it comes to leather spills an stains should be avoided however leather is pretty good at dealing with such accidents in the home and can easily be wiped clean. Fabric on the other hand will soak up a stain as quick as it lands and can completely ruin the look of your biggest and best piece of furniture.
For leather it is always best to have a leather cleaning kit at hand and for fabric you should always have a good stain remover within reach should the unimaginable happen.
General sofa care
Even a cheap sofa deserves to be treated with care and attention to make sure it lives out its full potential. A few general rules are to keep anything such as felt tip pens or inks of any kind away from your sofa, ensure sharp objects are also kept well away and whenever possible don’t eat on your sofa. It is always best to keep messy and spill-able things away from any kind of sofa.
Of course it is possible you have bought your cheap sofa for the exact purpose of getting messed up quickly. In this case, go ahead and ignore all the above.
